IMPROVE
YOUR
HOME
Take a Seat
Outdoors or in, the right
set of folding chairs
can be
a welcome addition to any table.
“If you entertain frequently
and you have the storage space,
it’s a good investment,” says
interior designer Elaine Griffin.
She’s a fan of bamboo folding
chairs for their “super chic”
looks, strength, and ability to
blend in. She favors metal for
extra durability and plastic
for affordability.
1
CHOOSING
Look for a chair with a
curved back for comfort
and a sturdy frame and hinges.
Check the manufacturer's
website or customer service
department for weight limits.
2
USING
Although folding chairs
are fine for a dinner
party or as extra living room
seating, most aren’t designed
for long-term daily use.
3
PLANNING
Alternate folding chairs
with armchairs to ensure
elbowroom. “Caterers allow
24 inches per person— or 18
inches if you’re squeezing
guests in,” says Elaine.
4
STORING
Elaine recommends
hanging folding chairs
from bicycle hooks mounted
to a wall stud or ceiling joist.
“A chair might fit in the space
behind a door,” she says. Or
slide them under your bed.
